Getting to know… Samantha Bailey

WHERE DO YOU LIVE AND WHO DO YOU SHARE A HOUSE WITH?

I live on the Kent coast just outside of Sandgate with my wonderful husband, Tom.

HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO?

That’s a tricky one as I wear a lot of hats! I work with an incredible team to create once-in-a-lifetime experiences for visitors, overnight guests and brides at Port Lympne Hotel & Reserve and Howletts Wild Animal Park. I also work with The Aspinall Foundation, a renowned UK conservation charity which rewilds and protects animals in South Africa, Madagascar, Java, Congo and Gabon.

COULD YOU GIVE US 3 WORDS THAT BEST SUM YOU UP?

Driven. Passionate. Honest.

WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU HAVE EVER BEEN GIVEN?

Recently, I’ve found myself reading a lot about Coco Chanel. She was an incredible woman who was full of amazing wisdom, but the quote that has really stuck with me recently is “Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door.”

IS THERE A SINGLE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’D GIVE TO SOMEONE ELSE?

Believe in yourself. Confidence is infectious and if you truly believe in what you’re doing, others will follow suit.

IF YOU COULD SEND YOUR 16 YEAR OLD SELF A SHORT MESSAGE, WHAT WOULD IT SAY?

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU WANT TO GIVE YOURSELF A LITTLE SELF-CARE?

Hot yoga. It sounds like torture, but I promise that it is profoundly relaxing. There’s nothing better than just falling into a flow and letting your mind completely clear.

WHAT ETHICS ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU AND WHY?

Respect and accountability are very important to me. I don’t believe that anyone can truly succeed if they do not show respect for those around them or take responsibility for their impact on others and the world around them.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE SUSTAINABLE AND ETHICAL FOOD BRANDS?

Cooper King Herb Gin! They plant woodland in Yorkshire for every bottle sold, their distillery runs on green power, the botanicals get reused at a local bakery and the packaging is plastic-free and recyclable.

CAN YOU POINT US IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION OF SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE SMALL BUSINESSES?

Without a doubt my favourite is Spectrum Collections. They produce beautiful, cruelty-free makeup brushes and they are passionate supporters of our work at The Aspinall Foundation.

NAME AN ESSENTIAL ITEM IN YOUR HANDBAG AND TELL US WHY IT’S SO VITAL.

Lipstick. I’m ready to take on anything after a fresh application of something red!

WHERE IS YOUR HAPPY PLACE?

I absolutely adore living by the sea.

AND LASTLY WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE ANIMAL AND WHY?

Working here at Port Lympne, my favourite animal seems to change daily. But I always seem to gravitate back to our lions and our adorable lion cubs.
