Do you know if the chocolate you are eating is slave free?

There is nothing like having a sweet treat to brighten you or your child's day. But something that may not have crossed your mind is whether or not the chocolate treat you are eating is slave free?

It is important to eat slave-free chocolate because the chocolate industry has a history of forced labor and child slavery in cacao production. By choosing slave-free chocolate, you are helping to contribute to the ethical treatment of workers and supporting companies that prioritise social responsibility.

It is something we are super passionate about at PLAYin CHOC®. Not only do we produce chocolate that is free from slavery and are a fully ethical manufacturer, but we also want people to know about the mainstream chocolate brands that are not slave free.

If you care who makes your chocolate, then you have the power to change the industry by only choosing ethical brands.

Dominic Simler PLAYinCHOC Founder comments: “One of the problems we discovered with chocolate as an industry – and this is becoming more known about, there’s more more stuff in the press about it – is the child slave or “child workers”. There’s forced labour involving 1.5 million children in West Africa harvesting cacao.  And this is a problem that’s been going on for decades; many decades. What it comes down to, we discovered, and this has been in the press recently, increasingly so over the years since we started, is that the farmers are paid between 75 cents – $1 a day to harvest the cacao in West Africa."
